The Grand Canyon Skywalk would be amazing even if it didn't extend out over the Grand Canyon. The Skywalk itself is a wonder to see and the fact that it juts out over the Grand Canyon just makes it all the more interesting.
Located on the edge of the Grand Canyon West Rim, construction of the Skywalk began in March of 2004 and was officially opened to the public on March 28, 2007. The Skywalk, which was commissioned by the Hualapai Tribe, is a horseshoe shaped glass walkway that protrudes out over the Grand Canyon at 4000 feet above the floor of the canyon (a height which exceeds the world's largest skyscrapers) and 65 feet beyond the rim of the canyon. The walls and floors are made from 4 inch thick glass and is capable of holding 70 tons of weight and can withstand up to 100 mph winds and a magnitude 8 earthquake.
NOTE: There is an admission fee for the Skywalk ($29.95 (plus tax) as of opening day). Also, visitors will want to be aware that "NO CAMERAS" are permitted on the Skywalk. This is to protect the glass from being scratched.
